Help your first small promise go smoothly.

Getting started

Use the iPhone or iPad you want to manage.

  1. 1

    Grant permission

Open SafeSprout, choose Start setup, then authorize Screen Time through the system interface. If authorization is denied, review the message and try again.

  2. 2

    Choose a parent PIN

Enter and confirm six ASCII digits. Keep the PIN with the parent; cloud recovery is not available.

  3. 3

    Choose apps or categories

Open Limited apps and add an app or category. A whole category shares an allowance; an individual app has its own allowance.

  4. 4

    Enable protection

Set the daily allowance and any safety options, then enable and confirm protection from the overview. Resolve any monitoring error before trying again.

Time and apps

How does a category allowance work?

Apps in one category share one daily allowance. With Games set to 30 minutes, 10 minutes in Game A and 20 in Game B reach the category limit. The system then restricts that category. Each category has a separate allowance.

What limits can I choose?

The default is 30 minutes per day. Presets are 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 and 120 minutes, with custom values from 1 to 1440 minutes. Up to 50 app and category rules can be saved in total.

Why is an allowed app still restricted?

Category and individual app limits apply together. Allowing an app does not remove an exhausted category limit, and allowing a category does not remove an app’s own restriction. Review each relevant rule.

How can a parent allow more time today?

Choose Ask a parent to unlock on the system shield, follow the instructions to open SafeSprout, and authenticate. A parent can allow the rule for today or keep it locked. If the category is unclear, choose it in the management area. Daily states reset on a new day.

Why is there no live remaining time?

The app shows configured allowances and lock states maintained by system events, not live usage statistics. Apple’s events may be delayed; check the device’s actual restrictions.

Does turning protection off reset today’s time?

Turning it off and on on the same day preserves recorded locks and parent exceptions. Turning protection off stops this app’s monitoring and withdraws its restrictions while keeping saved rules.

Permission and protection

Do I need Family Sharing or two devices?

No. This version uses the device owner’s individual authorization and is set up locally. There is no remote management. Set up each device separately.

What if authorization is lost?

Check Screen Time permission in parent settings and authorize again when prompted. Old app identifiers and rules are cleared after authorization is lost, so you will need to select them again.

What does restricting other apps do?

When enabling protection, you can request access only to selected apps and confirmed apps within selected categories. Other apps may be shielded. Confirm the allowed category scope; there is a maximum of 50 app exceptions, and essential system apps may be exempt. Icons may remain visible.

Does an enabled safety switch guarantee protection?

A switch represents a saved choice or a submitted system request. The actual effect depends on permission, OS version, the device and other restrictions. Verify it on the device. Some options affect the entire device, including apps used by parents.

What do purchase and gaming restrictions cover?

Requiring a purchase password does not prohibit purchases. In-app purchase restrictions do not cover external payment methods. Gaming options apply to Game Center, not all games’ own multiplayer or friend features.

Can the app prevent removal or every bypass?

No absolute bypass prevention is guaranteed. The device owner can revoke authorization, and removing the app or signing out of iCloud may also end management. Agree on expectations together.

PIN and unlocking

What if I forget the parent PIN?

There is no cloud recovery, universal PIN or one-tap reset. The device owner can revoke SafeSprout’s Screen Time authorization in Settings to end management, but this does not recover the PIN. Keychain items may remain after removal, so reinstalling is not guaranteed to reset it.

Why must I wait before trying the PIN again?

After five incorrect attempts, the app waits 30 seconds. Further incorrect attempts increase the delay up to one hour. The wait is stored locally, survives app restarts and cannot be bypassed with biometrics.

Can I use Face ID or Touch ID?

You can enable quick verification in parent settings on supported devices. Any face or fingerprint enrolled on the device may pass, so leave it off if the child has enrolled biometrics. The app does not access or store raw biometric data.

Why must I unlock the app again?

Going into the background closes management screens and locks the app. Authentication is required when you reopen it. Actions within an already unlocked session do not repeatedly ask for the PIN.

Data and devices

Is data uploaded or synced?

SafeSprout has no cloud account and does not upload usage details. Rules, preferences and daily states stay on the device; PIN verification materials use a device-only Keychain item without iCloud sync. No device sync is offered. System backups follow your system settings.

How do I end management or remove data?

Turn protection off in the app or revoke system permission first. Remove rules in the app and uninstall if needed. App-container data may be removed on uninstall, but Keychain items may remain. Uninstalling does not guarantee removal of all PIN materials. See the privacy policy.

Which devices and languages are supported?

iPhone and iPad with iOS / iPadOS 17.6 or later. The app supports Simplified and Traditional Chinese, English, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, French, German, Brazilian Portuguese and Italian. Choose the language in parent settings.
